Student Council

The Student Council consists of a cabinet of student-elected senior students with the support from the class representatives and club chairmen to organize an array of activities. The Council serves as a role model to uphold and promote the core values of the College while members are encouraged to raise issues of concern and undertake initiatives which benefit to the school and the wider community.

Prefect Board

The Prefect Board pledges to carry out their responsibilities to the best of their ability and fulfill a stewardship of gargantuan proportions as servant leaders, maintaining a disciplined and effective learning environment, but also mentors to support students in need.

Student Ambassador

The Student Ambassadors are dedicated to actively and passionately assisting with the College events and public functions held for prospective students and their families. Unique opportunity of training is given to develop interpersonal, presentation, and leadership skills.

Houses

All students in Ying Wa College are allocated evenly and randomly to five houses upon enrolment. Numerous inter-house competitions in the areas of sports, culture and music are held throughout the year. The house with the highest aggregate mark in these competitions notches up the overall championship of the year. Under the house system, competitions are always met with much excitement and fervor. Ying Wa boys spare no effort in participating and striving for the best and in doing so, the school is becoming a supportive, close-knit school community.

The five houses are: Leung Faat, Milne, Morrison. Noble and Hoh Fuk Tong.

Leung Faat House was named after Mr. Leung Faat (1789-1855), the first Minister in China. The colour of the house is brown and its mascot is the bull which is symbolic of astounding strength and perseverance.

Milne House was named after Dr. William Milne (1785-1822), our first Principal. He was a missionary who came to China to evangelize in 1812. The mascot of Milne House is the unicorn. Yellow is its house colour.

Noble House was named after Mr. H. Noble, O.B.E., who was the first principal to take office since Ying Wa College was relocated to the school premises at Oxford Road. Noble House was reinstated in 1991. Lion is the house’s mascot and its house colour is red.

Rev. Hoh Fuk Tong (1817-1871) was a student of Ying Wa College and also the first Reverend in China. The mascot of the house is the eagle, whose wings symbolize freedom. Blue is its house colour.

Morrison House was designated in memory of Rev. Robert Morrison (1782-1834), our school founder. He was born in England in 1782 and became a preacher at the age of 16. He was sent to Macau to preach the Gospel in 1807 and toiled tirelessly over Bible translations. In 1818, Rev. Morrison and his partner, Dr. William Milne, established Ying Wa College in Malacca. Dragon is the mascot of the house while its symbolic colour is green.
